A residual current circuit breaker (RCD) specially designed for electric vehicles RCD type A EV The RCD type A EV, on the other hand, was specially developed for charging electric cars and plug-in hybrid vehicles and has an even lower tripping threshold compared to a type B RCD. While a type B RCD interrupts the circuit at a residual current of = 30 mA, a type A EV RCD triggers at = 6 mA. The special design of the RCD type A EV also prevents any upstream RCD type A from "going blind" (i.e. losing its protective function due to smooth DC residual currents). This is why a type A-EV RCD is the preferred choice when charging stations need to be reliably protected. This was specially developed for charging electric cars.
